Proposing at Belvedere Castle (Central Park, NYC)

High above Central Park’s winding paths, you can find one of NYC’s most unique landmarks perched on Vista Rock - Belvedere Castle. Completed in 1869, Belvedere Castle feels like a hidden escape in the middle of Manhattan.

What makes Belvedere Castle a good proposal spot?

Honestly, there are so many reasons:

The castle itself is absolutely stunning - the unique stone structures and multiple compositions offer a romantic backdrop for your big moment (whether you’re on the castle itself, or somewhere nearby)

The sweeping views of Central Park - you can see Turtle Pond, the Great Lawn, and Upper East Side skyline, all from an elevated viewpoint.

It’s easy to find - given the castle’s size, it’s impossible to miss.

How do I get to Belvedere Castle?

Getting here is as easy as plugging it into your maps app. If you’re heading straight to the castle from outside of the park, the closest park entrances are East 79th St/5th Ave (from the east side) or West 81st St/Central Park West (from the west side). It’s about an 8-minute walk to the castle on either of these routes.

What time should I propose?

The best photo compositions at this spot are all pointing east, meaning the morning is the best time. For the absolute best light (and more importantly, the fewest crowds), I typically recommend proposing here 45-60 minutes after sunrise. You’ll be able to take full advantage of a beautiful intimate moment and on top of that…

You’re right near many iconic Central Park landmarks!

Assuming you’re getting your proposal photographed, Belvedere Castle is an easy walk to the Oak Bridge, and before you know it, you’ll be at the Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, and Central Park Mall! While these spots won’t be empty, the advantage of an early morning proposal is that you’ll likely still have good morning light and relatively light crowds. All the more reason to do an early morning proposal.

I’d like to plan my proposal at Belvedere Castle. What next?

Feel free to reach out here! I’d love to help you plan and photograph your special moment.
