San Remo Viewpoint: Central Park Proposal Profile
Nestled in the heart of some of Central Park’s most popular sites is a secret spot (well, kinda… not really) unofficially referred to as the San Remo Viewpoint. This location offers remarkable views of The Lake, as well as the iconic San Remo - a Renaissance Revival-style co-op apartment building on Central Park West.
If you’ve been researching Central Park proposal locations, odds are you’ve seen images of this spot, and for good reason. It’s an extremely popular option to pop the question!
Due to its popularity for proposals, and the not-entirely-clear way to get here, I’ve put together a guide on how best to approach this spot for your special moment.
Where’s it located?
This is a bit of a tough one, since it’s not exactly visible on Google Maps. If you had to place an exact pin, it would be somewhere around here.
How do I get there?
Whether you’re a city local or a visitor, I recommend using the Bow Bridge as your starting point, as opposed to starting in The Ramble.
The Ramble can be extremely confusing to navigate (even as a born-and-raised New Yorker, I still get lost), so you’re definitely better off starting from the Bow Bridge.
DIRECTIONS:
Starting from this point, walk across the Bow Bridge. You’ll know you’re heading in the correct direction because you’ll see the San Remo Building.
Once you cross the bridge, the path will curve right. Follow this path for a short moment.
You’ll then arrive at a junction. PROCEED STRAIGHT.
Going left (that dirt path and large rock) will take you to the wrong vantage point.
Going right will take you in the wrong direction entirely.
Shortly after continuing straight, you’ll see a fork with two paths. STAY LEFT.
We’re almost there - the walk towards the vantage point will appear just after we pass this tree marked with a red star.
As soon as you take that left fork, you’ll see a stone-and-dirt path on your left - follow this path to the vantage point.
Walk to the end of this path, and you’ve arrived!
When should I do my proposal?
Early morning (8 AM or earlier!) is best for this spot for the following reasons:
While the San Remo Viewpoint isn’t mobbed at all times, it’s right near some of the most popular sites in Central Park (Bow Bridge and Bethesda Terrace). Therefore, an early start will not only help ensure you likely get this spot to yourself, but it will also allow for a more intimate post-proposal photoshoot at those nearby sites.
This is a fan-favorite for proposals, meaning if you choose to come here later in the morning or day, there’s a higher probability of another proposal occurring at this exact spot. If that other proposal includes an elaborate setup with petals, candles, and other props (not too uncommon at this spot), that can further complicate things.
Sounds great, let’s book a proposal photoshoot!
