Proposing in Carl Schurz Park (Upper East Side, NYC)
Located on East End Avenue between 84th and 90th Streets, and home to Gracie Mansion (the mayor’s official residence), Carl Schurz Park is a true local gem.
Why should I propose in Carl Schurz Park?
Compared to Central Park, Carl Schurz Park has a more tranquil feel. While the park is relatively tiny, there’s no shortage of diverse scenery and beautiful photo compositions that can create a romantic scene for your proposal. From seasonal foliage to river views to stone archways, there’s something for everyone.
Where should I propose in Carl Schurz Park?
There are multiple options to choose from, but I have two absolute favorites:
The Arch Near the Peter Pan Statue
From the park entrance at 87th Street and East End, walk right to the Peter Pan Statue. When you reach the statue, turn around and look west (towards the entrance you just came from). The archway creates a beautiful frame for your proposal moment.
The Stone Wall Above 86th Street
If you enter the park at 86th Street and East End and walk east towards the river, you’ll climb a curving staircase to get up to the East River Promenade. At this location is a stone wall that overlooks 86th Street.
Use the E. 90th St ferry as your cover story.
If you’re not someone who regularly visits Carl Schurz Park, bringing your partner here might raise some alarm bells. After all, it’s a fairly random park.
One way to combat this is to make the ferry stop (E. 90th St) a part of your cover story. The NYC Ferry is a wonderful way to get around the city, and with the Astoria and Rockaway-Soundview routes stopping at E. 90th St, the possibilities for a cover story are endless.
